The main sports event in Latvia during the last few weeks has untoubtedly been the Ice Hockey World Championship which took place from 07.05.2010 to 23.05.2010 in Germany. Let’s take a look at the ratings and compare them to last years’ average figures.

As we can see, this year’s top rated game was Latvia vs. Czech Republic which was a decisive game for Latvians to get into the quarter finals. Average rating for games without Team Latvia participation is 1,3 (except final games for which ratings had not been calculated untill press time). If compared to previous years’ ratings, this year ranks between Y2008 and Y2009 games.

By looking at the average game affinity levels in different demographic groups for games with Team Latvia participation (shown below), we can draw an approximate game viewer demographic profile. The average viewer is a male, latvian, from 25 to 54 years of age, living in Vidzeme, Kurzeme or Zemgale, with a medium-low to medium income.
